Caminho Sul - the Way South.

The idea to do an epic journey through South America has been in our heads for some years now and has grown over the last couple of years and become more concrete and real. The journey leads us from the northeast of Brazil down to Fireland and back. Traveling through the different climate zones, a lot of different gear is required and in order to take all that with us and to be able to stop wherever we want, it became apparent at the early stages that we had to do this trip by car. Although traveling by public transport would allow us to have more contact with the local people, however, there is nothing like having your own car, which will give us the freedom of making spontaneous decisions of when and where to stop.

During the trip we will cover about 20,000km. This number speaks for itself and on most of the days we spend some hours per day traveling sitting in a car. Although there are stories of people doing this trip in a Volkswagen Beetle, we felt a slightly bigger, more comfortable type of car is more appropriate to do this if we do not want to end up being completely tired at the end of the day.

Before the start, a lot of things had to be organised. Vaccinations had to be taken, organising a car for the trip, speaking to embassies to clarify beforehand any potential issues with border crossings by car and last but not least preparing the car for the trip and getting maps and travel guides for the areas we intend to travel.

This web page will be our travel-log where we plan to post on a more or less daily basis, depending on internet access along the way, news and photos from our trip. So please come back and have a look from time to time between December 2011 and February 2012.

Caminho Sul.

A idéia de fazer uma viagem épica pela América do Sul está em nossas cabeças há alguns anos e tem crescido ao longo dos últimos anos e se tornar mais concreto e real. O roteiro leva-nos do Nordeste do Brasil até Terra de Fogo e de volta. Viajando pelas diferentes zonas climáticas, um monte equipamento é necessário e, para ter tudo isso conosco e para ter a oportunidade de parar onde quisermos, tomamos a decisão logo no início que tivemos que fazer esta viagem de carro. Apesar de viajar de transportes públicos nos permitiria ter mais contato com o povo local, não tem comparação do seu próprio carro que dar a liberdade a nos de fazer paradas quando e aonde quisemos.

Durante a viagem vamos cobrir cerca de 20.000 km. Este número fala por si mesmo e na maioria dos dias vamos passar algumas horas por dia viajando no carro. Embora existem histórias de pessoas que fazem essa viagem com um Fusca, achamos que um carro maior e mais confortável seria mais apropriado para fazer isso, se a gente não quer acabar sendo completamente cansado ao final do dia.

Antes de tudo, um monte de coisas tinham que ser organizado. Vacinas tiveram que ser tomadas, arrumar um carro para a viagem, falando para embaixadas para esclarecer de antemão qualquer problema potencial com passagens de fronteira com o carro, mapas da região e por último mas não menos importante, preparar o carro para a viagem e obter e guias de viagem para as áreas que pretendemos viajar

Esta página vai ser o nosso diário de bordo para a viajem aonde planejamos de postar mais ou menos tudo dia, dependendo do acesso à Internet ao longo do caminho, notícias e fotos da nossa viagem. Então, por favor, volte e dê uma olhada de vez em quando entre dezembro de 2011 e fevereiro de 2012.

O diário de bordo vai ser somente em Inglês como não teríamos o tempo de escrever o blog em todas as línguas.

Caminho Sul - Der Weg nach Süden.

Die Idee, eine lange Reise durch Südamerika zu machen, ist seit einigen Jahren in unseren Köpfen und in den letzten paar Jahren stark gewachsen und konkreter geworden. Die Route führt uns aus dem Nordosten von Brasilien bis nach Feuerland und zurück. Die Reise durch verschiedene Klimazonen erfordert unterschiedliche Kleidung und Gepäck und um alles, was wir brauchen, mitnehmen zu können, und um anzuhalten, wo immer wir wollen, haben wir uns schon sehr früh für eine Reise mit dem Auto entschieden. Obwohl wir mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln mehr Kontakt mit den Menschen vor Ort haben würden, andererseits ist nichts besser als ein eigenes Auto was und die Freiheit gibt, wann und wo immer anzuhalten wie es uns gefällt.

Während der Reise werden wir etwa 20.000 km mit dem Auto zurücklegen. Diese Zahl spricht für sich und so werden wir an den meisten Tagen zumindest einige Stunden pro Tag im Auto verbringen. Es gibt zwar Geschichten von Leuten, die diese Reise im VW Käfer gemacht haben, wir haben uns aber dennoch für ein etwas komfortableres Auto entschieden, damit wir nicht am Ende eines Reisetages völlig müde und kaputt am Etappenziel ankommen.

Vor der Reise müssen aber noch eine Menge Dinge organisiert werden. Impfungen, ein Auto für die Reise, Kontakte zu den Konsulaten, um potenzielle Probleme an Grenzübergängen mit dem Auto zu klären und nicht zuletzt die Vorbereitung des Wagens für die Reise, sowie Karten und Reiseführer für die Länder die wir bereisen wollen.

Diese Webseite wird unser Reise-Tagebuch sein, in das wir mehr oder weniger täglich, je nach Internet-Zugang auf dem Weg, Neuigkeiten von unserer Reise berichten und Fotos zeigen werden. Also schaut doch ab und zu zwischen Dezember 2011 und Februar 2012 wieder rein und erfahrt Neuigkeiten von unserer Reise.

Da wir nicht planen, alle Einträge in drei Sprachen zu veröffentlichen, wird ein Großteil der Berichte leider nur in englischer Sprache sein.
